How do I care for my SKIDLESS®?
- Please wash with like colors before first use. Because we use dyes that are Azo, heavy metal and lead free, dyes may initially bleed.
- Machine wash (warm) colors separately. Do not bleach.
- Tumble dry on low heat.
- Do not use fabric softeners or dryer sheets, as they will make the surface of the SKIDLESS® slick.

There can be many reasons that people still slip while using their SKIDLESS®. Experiment with possible solutions listed below that may work for you:
Care for SKIDLESS® that can interfere with grip:
- Do not use fabric softener or detergents with fabric softener.
- Use a sportswash such as Penguin Sport Wash. A lot of new detergents have agents that actually leave residue that makes the garment feel nice but also fills in the spaces between fabric weave and can block the special performance aspects that were intended.
Individual Sweat Tendencies:
- Some people begin sweating immediately during class – including the areas near the hands/feet so that these areas of the SKIDLESS® get moist and maximum grip is obtained. Often these people benefit most from placing SKIDLESS® on the length of the mat at the beginning of class.
- Others take a while to work up a sweat and may not immediately get sweaty in these particular areas. The SKIDLESS® can be conveniently placed at the top of the mat and as the hands get moist and/or you start to drip, it can be partially unrolled to place just under the hands (or just the feet) and as you work up more of a sweat, it can continue to be unrolled as needed.
- Finally, some people choose to wet their hands and/or feet or moisten the area under the hands/feet before class begins, as this seems to work best for their body type and style of practice. Remember, SKIDLESS® gives a greater grip as it absorbs more moisture.
- Some people just have extraordinary soft, smooth skin on their hands and/or feet and may be a little more challenged.
Body adjustments that one can do to help prevent slippage:
For example, in downward facing dog:
- Often practitioners apply too much forward pressure with the hands and too much backward pressure with the feet… this can make holding the pose firmly difficult. As strength and flexibility are developed, one can instead start to pull energy up into the body so that the hands and the feet will feel like they are subtly moving towards the center of the mat instead of pushing out away from from it.
- Engage the core and strongly draw the upper thigh muscles up (kneecaps lift towards the hips); this encourages the weight of the body to shift back so that it is distributed more evenly.
- Spread the fingers and press down evenly throughout the entire hand. Imagine having Spider Man suction cups covering your palms and fingers and press down firmly into each of them.
- Lift the forearms up away from the mat and toward the ceiling - as if to allow a thin piece of paper to slide under the heel of the hand (this also takes some pressure off the wrists).
- Flaring your ribs and armpits down towards the mat (hyper-extending your shoulders) will not only contribute to forward pressure (encouraging slipping) but puts a lot of pressure on the joints. Instead, relax the low ribs into the body; release the shoulder blades down the back, away from the ears. Keeping the arms strong, externally rotate the upper arm in the shoulder socket (the triceps will roll down in the direction of the mat). These actions help draw energy up the arms as opposed to forward and down into the mat and will make your down-dog solid and sturdy.
